I am Maria, a 25-year old university student majoring in Finnish language. Alongside my studies, I teach Finnish for immigrants. I have a passion for storytelling, linguistics and education, and I hope to combine all of them in some way in my future career. On my free time, I read (fiction and non-fiction alike), drink coffee with my friends and play baglama, a Turkish lute-like instrument.

It is impossible to put into words how special it was to be there for 10 days, living with people who were initially strangers but then gradually become your friends. The nautical setting was surprisingly pleasant even for such a landlubber as myself: even though I had no prior experience of being on the sea, sailing and living on Marleen felt easy because of the experienced crew.“
