Day 4: Nisyros
Ship ahoi! Our day started a bit differently today – awoken by the sweet sounds of Marleen’s engine, we departed from Symi in the early morning hours and enjoyed a lively breakfast on the high seas, accompanied by the exasperating view of the sun rising over the mighty Aegean – Odysseus would be proud!
Despite the strong winds and high waves, we were able to further connect with our fellow crew members as well as our nautical knowledge by virtue of our Maritime Mastermind Angelika. After a whopping seven hours at sea, we finally reached our destination – the island of Nisyros. The fact that we performed our first perfect docking maneuver was the icing on the cake.
After briefly settling in, we headed to a local cafe where we got into deep deliberations on the importance of European Education as a catalyst for European Integration. Points that were debated were the vision of a EU Higher Education System, the roles of transparency and Open Science, the significance of existing educational mechanisms as well as the challenge of public information dissemination.
After this theoretical discussion, we promptly put theory into practice in a Pan-European football match composed of five different nationalities. Communication on the field, shall we say, was stirred by action rather than words. After such a heated match, we are looking forward to further discovering the island of Nisyros tomorrow!
Kalo Mina to all!
