My name is Alexandre Dumez, and I was born in 2004. I’m French and currently studying cultural anthropology in Leiden, the Netherlands. My goal is to contribute to positive societal change, focusing on improving our relationship with the planet and each other. This year, I serve as the president of the cultural anthropology study association, where I strive to ensure that university life is accessible for everyone. I strongly believe in the enrichment that comes from participating in collective projects, and I aim to strengthen bonds among European populations. Having witnessed the impact of fear and ignorance on our neighbors, I am dedicated to fostering understanding. My family lived in Ukraine and had to immigrate to France to escape the war, so contributing to the construction of lasting peace in Europe is one of my dreams.
“The Summer school is a trip that made me experience an adventure that I will be forever grateful for. These memories are the ones I think about when I go to bed and try to envision hopeful times for a pleasant future. Talking and learning about the lives and ambitions of my peers on the boat gave me a lot of hope and allowed me to experience feelings that couldn’t be reproduced anywhere else.”
